Life partners since 1971, we have raised two wonderful sons!  But, we have taught so many talented and wonderful people over the years, people whom we love deeply, that we sometimes feel like we have 5,000 children! In one of our previous lives we were licensed private investigators, specializing in fraud and forensic accounting. Our fiction writing began with a mystery and detective series featuring two career weary college professors and focusing on plots evolved from actual cases which we investigated. The Carson family series begins with Hidden Malice. We branched out into international thrillers with Prometheus Unleashed, and its sequel, Killing in the Market, both fast paced, edge of your seat action dramas. The Carland Family of Companies                Allied Academies is a non-profit association of scholars whose mission is to encourage and support research. It sponsors conferences and publishes journals. Forensic Investigations is a licensed private investigation firm specializing in fraud and forensic accounting. Carland Consulting offers in-depth counseling and consulting services on a wide variety of topics. The Carland Foundation for Learning is a 501(c)3 firm seeking contributions to support entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurship students. Carland Academy offers in-depth training videos to the public completely free and without obligation. It also extends a number of fee paid services to nascent and prospective entrepreneurs. And, of course, Whitney Press is our publishing company. It edits, composes, designs, and publishes books, novels, and journals.

Textbooks                                  These are available in hardback, paperback, or PDF eBook, from Whitney Press. We intend for our textbooks to cover the entire spectrum of Entrepreneurship, from Introduction to Strategy. We are now finalizing Entrepreneurial Leadership, and we will add it to the list in the near future. We will be developing several other books from time to time to complete the series. Research To support research in Entrepreneurship, we make the Carland Entrepreneurship Index available without charge. The instrument, for both active and prospective entrepreneurs, and the scoring instructions, are posted on our Research Page. It has now been translated into more than a dozen languages, but we don't have access to those. A manuscript addressing its validation published in the Proceedings of the RISE 1996 Conference, University of Jyväskylä, Finland, pp. 1-24, is also posted. We invite you to use the CEI, and ask that you inform us of your usage and your results. We would love to receive copies of your work and to hear your reactions to the instrument. A number of people have asked for access to a recent paper dealing with our suggestions for a change in Economic Development Policy to emphasize entrepreneurship rather than recruiting big companies. That article, and a companion power point of key graphs, is posted on our research page, as is a White Paper on Innovation. We have been asked for copies of some of our older research articles, and a number of those are posted on the research page, as well. Bios Our first foray into entrepreneurship was a software company that we co-founded in 1980, and a dozen more have followed since then. We earned Ph.D. degrees from the University of Georgia, and found that we enjoyed research. We wrote more than 200 articles over the years, and established an academic reputation.
