Welcome to our Biography Page We consider ourselves to be writers, entrepreneurs, scholars and educators. We have had some success at all of those activies, as we will explore below. If you would like to have more information about us, just let us know! |
| Our
writing career has produced five novels, and we are in the process of
adding to that number. You can learn about what we
have written at
Whitney Press. Our entrepreneurship career began with a software company that we co-founded in 1980. We designed and built the first fully integrated microcomputer accounting system in the United States! Sales went from $200,000 in year one, to $2,000,000 in year two! We sold our interest in year three, and we have co-founded more than a dozen companies since that time. Not all of our companies have been as successful, although a number continue to exist and to do well. We probably learned more from our failures than we did from our successes, but our entrepreneurship career has been a graduate program in the subject! We earned Ph.D. degrees from the University of Georgia, and immediately found that we enjoyed research. We wrote more than a dozen books and more than 200 articles over the years, and we had a great deal of success in terms of establishing an academic reputation. In a 1997 article by Ratnatunga and Romano, we were noted as the most frequently cited authors in the world in leading entrepreneurship journals during the period 1975 through 1992, and we continue to be well received today. Using what we learned in the field, we have had a great deal of success in entrepreneurship curriculum design. We designed and implemented one of the first undergraduate majors in entrepreneurship, and we took that program to the Internet. We turned to graduate programs, and we designed the first Master of Entrepreneurship degree program in the U.S., and took that program online. We were recognized by the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship in 2005 when it selected our ME program as the best in the Nation in that year. We left public education in 2007 to escape limitations imposed by the system, and subsequently co-founded Carland College, an online university which concentrates exclusively on entrepreneurship.. We then established Carland Academy to provide practical, applied, hands-on education and training to practicing entrepreneurs. We invite you to check us out yourself!
