Welcome to our Research Page

Here are links to go back to the home page, to our novels, to our textbooks, and to our biographies. To the left are links to our Google+, Facebook, and Linked In pages, and an email link. Please feel free to contact us at any time. We would love to hear from you!

To support and encourage research in Entrepreneurship, we make the Carland Entrepreneurship Index available without charge. Here is the CEI for both active and prospective entrepreneurs, and the scoring instructions. It has now been translated into more than a dozen languages, but we don't have access to all of those translations.
We published an article addressing the validation of the CEI in the Proceedings of the RISE 1996 Conference, University of Jyvaskyla, Finland, pp. 1-24. Here is that  article. Please feel free to use the CEI in your own research. If you do use it, please inform us and let us know the results. We would love to receive copies of your papers and to know how well it worked for you.

A number of people have asked for access to a recent paper entitled, Economic Development: Changing the Policy to Support Entrepreneurship, which deals with our suggestions for a change in Economic Development Policy to emphasize entrepreneurship rather than recruiting big companies. Here is that article, and here is a companion power point of key graphs. In addition, we recently produced a White Paper on Innovation, and here is that article.

We have been asked for copies of some of our older research articles. Here is our most frequently cited article published in the Academy of Management Review in 1984, entitled Differentiating Entrepreneurs from Small Business Owners: A Conceptualization . Here is an an article we published in the Journal of Business and Entrepreneurship in 1992, entitled Managers, Small Business Owners and Entrepreneurs: The Cognitive Dimension. Here is an article we published in the Journal of Small Business Strategy in 1996, entitled, Seeing What's Not There: The Enigma of Entrepreneurship. Here is an article we published in the Journal of Business and Entrepreneurship in 1997, entitled, Entrepreneurship: An American Dream. Here is an article we published in the Journal of Business and Entrepreneurship in 2000, entitled, New Venture Creation Model.

Finally, here is an interview of us which was published in the Fall 2005 issue of Region Focus concerning Nature vs. Nurture. The interviewer, Charles Gerena, recognized that entrepreneurs play a unique role in the economy, and he was asking whether they are born or whether their behavior can be taught.

In a recent Case Writing Workshop which we conducted, participants asked for access to examples of case and case note writing. Here are two recent issues of the Journal of the International Academy for Case Research:
